Federal Government and State Attorneys General Reach $25 Billion Agreement with Five Largest Mortgage Servicers to Address Mortgage Loan Servicing and Foreclosure Abuses

"We’ve been asking for principal reduction for years. We’ve been asking for servicer regulation for years. . . While the agreement should have been larger based on the enormous damage done, an agreement at all is a positive development; it makes a dent."

Federal Government & Housing

The federal government sets the overall tone for housing policy and planning through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The Department is critical to addressing the structural gap between household income and housing prices and the persistent un-affordability of housing.  HUD already plays an important role in making housing affordable through its investment in rental vouchers, public and assisted housing, and more recent HUD-funded efforts led by states and localities.  The vast majority of housing rescources come from the federal government.

As a statewide housing advocacy organization, COHHIO follows housing issues of importance and keeps in touch with  Congressional delegation members when the need arises.  We also rely on input from our national partners:  National Low-Income Housing Coalition and the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
